Lo que no Puede Dividirse (What cannot be Divided)
Project type
Interactive Installation - Solo Show
Date
Julio 6 -Agosto 16, 2024
Location
Buenos Aires, Argentina
This interactive installation comprises sixteen bioplastic pieces, each containing an inner bubble with a microbiome cultivated from agar-agar and the roots of a single plant species. Agar-agar is both the growth medium and a key ingredient in the bioplastic itself. Each piece incorporates motion sensors programmed with Arduino, activating five light patterns that modulate exposure and generate heat affecting microbial development. At the center, a vessel presents the sequential steps of DNA extraction from the same plant. A metronome operates below, and the space is enclosed by earth walls.
The installation juxtaposes the scientific protocol—displayed step by step in test tubes—and the seemingly fixed data of DNA with the reality that organisms are not static. Genetic material may appear definitive, yet its expression shifts through interaction with both human presence and environmental conditions.
Project developed with the support of Universidad Maimónides, Argentina.
